Teaching Students to Self-Monitor During Close Reading

The newest issue of Educational Leadership is all about teaching with informational texts and there’s an article by me that has access free to anyone! What Students Can Do When the Reading Gets Rough.  I discuss how to help students self-monitor for understanding during close reading of non-narrative texts and share an example of what this might look like with an actual text.

I found a helpful tidbit or more in all of the articles. This issue might be a good text for members of a professional learning community to pick and choose from for reading, discussing and sharing.
